While Olivia wasn’t exactly upset to see Jacob, the look in his eyes told her she wasn’t going to like whatever he had to say. "Hey, Jacob. How’s it going at the station?"

"It’s going good," he nodded as he rubbed his hands together looking as if he had something deep on his mind. "What I want to know is what were you doing rolling around in the mud with light-bright over there." He folded his massive arms unknowingly drawing attention to his biceps. Back in the day, that move alone would have turned her to teenage mush in his presence. Today, it just ticked her off.

"Jacob, I don’t have to give an account of what I do to you or anyone else."

"Maybe not, but how do you think it looks for you to meet a man and in less than twenty-four hours of knowing him have jail hanging over your head. And," he held up his hand to stall her, "the sheriff and Jay have to pull the two of you apart cause you’re making out in the mud like two horny teenagers in front of city hall."

"Let’s forget that whatever I do is my business and not yours or anyone else in this town for a moment." Olivia dropped the bag she’d had in her hands, place one hand on her hip, leaning on the other, "and remember that we haven’t been anything to each other for more than four years Jacob. Or am I the only one that remembers that when I decided to go away to college you," she poked him in the chest, "yes you, didn’t want me to go. You figured that I didn’t need to better myself. You wanted me to stay home, marry you and have a kid a year until I could barely remember what my feet ever looked like." Olivia stepped a tiny bit closer, lowering her voice forcing him to listen where he might have attempted to interrupt, "Were I interested in dating Stone, there wouldn’t be a single thing you could say or do about it, or would you like to call me sell-out next Jacob?"

"Olivia," he sighed, "I just don’t want to see you hurt. If I can’t make you happy, I just want to see you with someone who can." Jacob shook his head, twisted his mouth in resignation and said, "I left the power washer with Dudley Doo-right. Drop it by when you’re done."

Jacob walked off before Olivia could utter another word whether in defense or apology.

Stone, having hung back on purpose, now approached her with the power washer ready to go, "Ready to get the show on the road so we can get out of here?"

"Sure." Olivia stepped out of the way as Stone turned on the washer and blasted away the dirt, grime and only God knows what else from the bleachers.

For the second day in a row, four hours of community service had sped by. And like the day before, it was swiftly
